In under three minutes of the first period, Red got up on the board when D-man Dalton Ford banked a pass up the left-wing boards to Osinkosky, who then sliced-and-diced his way through the Orange defense and wristed a shot past Jump Street goalie Will Bryant.  At 4:16, Ford fed centerman Curtis Stepian who skated in and ripped a deceptive backhand shot that beat Bryant to end the period 2-0 in the Gladiator's favor.  SOGs after 1 were 6 to 5 in the Red's favor.

The second period was characterized with back-and-forth rushes and one-and-outs from both teams.  At 9:24, Gladiator winger Jeff Howe fought through a front-door scrum and punched a shot past Bryant.  Osinkosky assisted on the goal.  The second period ended 3-0, with Bryant facing 8 SOGs and Renfro facing 12 in the frame.

Gladiators Put the Brakes on Starsky & Hutch

The American Gladiators defeated S&H 6-2 last night at the MSA.  The win earns the AGs 4th Place in the standings and the last spot in the B-League playoffs.

The Gladiators got on the board at 5:46 of the first period when winger AJ Maher wristed a shot into a yawning net, beating S&H goalie Kelsey Haley.  Maher was assisted by center Tom Osinkosky and defenseman Dalton Ford.  S&H answered back 10 seconds later when a turnover at the AG blueline led to a goal by "Grellow's" Vince Riccabona.  Osinkosky put the Red back up with a pretty shot that beat Haley 5-hole at the 1:22 mark.  Blueliner Rick Schmitt got the helper on the goal.  S&H's captain Ryan Cornett tied the game with a wrister that snuck under Gladiator goalie Joe Renfro's arm with just 13 ticks left in the first.  Shots in the first period were 13-5 in the Gladiator's favor.

At 12:44 in the second, Red center Curtis Stepian lifted a shot that beat Haley to put the AGs back on top.  Stepian was assisted by D-man Sean Waddle.  Eight minutes later, Gladiator captain Rob Lovaglio carried the puck coast-to-coast and stuffed the puck past Haley for Lovaglio's 12th goal of the season.  The second period ended 4-2, with the Gladiators outshooting their opponent 26-11.

The AGs kept the offensive pressure simmering in the third.  Lovaglio found the back of the net again at 13:02 with assists going to winger Kevin Murray and Osinkosky.  At 9:39, Stepian fed the point and D-man Schmitt capped off the scoring with a 55-foot slapper that knuckled its way to the top shelf, ending the game 6-2.

Big Red Derails Soul Train

With tight, physical team defense, coupled with waves of relentless offensive pressure, the American Gladiators pummeled Soul Train 9-2 on Sunday night at the MSA.  Winger Bryan Slaughter and center Tom Osinkosky both had hat-tricks as the AGs peppered Train goalie Bruce Williamson with 42 SOG in the contest.

Gladiator Slaughter got on the board first with a stuff attempt that beat Williamson at 9:33 in the first period.  Slaughter was assisted by defenseman Rick Schmitt and center Osinkosky.  With 59 ticks left in the first and on a PK, Red's Osinkosky took advantage of open ice, skated 90 feet, and powered a shot past Williamson to put the Gladiators up by two.  Osinkosky was assisted by the omnipresent winger Curtis Stepian.  Shots after one were 10-5 in the AGs favor.

Slaughter scored again at 11:10 in the second with assists going to captain Rob Lovaglio and Schmitt.  At 9:10, Soul Train managed a quick shot that snuck by Gladiator goalie Joe RenfroRed answered back at 5:13 when Jeff Howe punched a shot past Williamson from a scrum in front to make the score 4-1.  Howe was assisted by A.J. Maher.  There was controversy on the Gladiator's fifth goal.  Schmitt passed to Osinkosky, who raced up the right side of the offensive zone and slid a shot that appeared to beat Williamson and ripple the net behind.  The referees determined it a goal.  There was a delayed reaction by Green, who argued that Williamson had the puck in his glove after it fell from his jersey.  The goal stood, and Green answered back less than 20 seconds later with a screened deflection that got by Renfro, ending the second period 5-2.

The Gladiators came out firing on all cylinders in the third.  Osinkosky scored at 14:05 from Stepian.  Thirty seconds later, Slaughter scored again with assists going to Big O and Stepian.  At 11:57, Lovaglio raced up-ice, dipsy-doodled a defenseman, and ripped a wrister that beat Williamson up high.  At 9:05, G-man blueliner Rob Bergstrom pinched in deep, skated around the back of the ST net, took advantage of a fallen Williamson, and wristed the puck into a yawning net to end the scoring 9-2.  Shots in the third frame favored the Gladiators 17-7.

AGs Down Strokes

The American Gladiators defeated Diff'rent Strokes (Teal) 5-3 in a tough, physical contest on Wednesday night at the MSA.  Gladiator netminder Joe Renfro had another solid performance (29 saves, .906 SV%) and Red captain Rob Lovaglio led the offensive charge with a 4-point performance (3G, 1A, including 1 shortie and the game-winner).

The Gladiators scored first when Lovaglio connected with winger Kevin Murray who lifted a shot past Strokes' goalie Jim Toth at 13:49.  Less than three minutes later, Lovaglio would beat Toth with assists going to defenseman Ryan Miller and Murray.  With 5:43 left in the period, Tom Osinkosky danced his way through a pair of defenders and punched a shot past Toth to put the Gladiators up 3-0.  Osinkosky was assisted by blueliner Dalton Ford and winger Bryan Slaughter.

The second period saw back-and-forth rushes, punctuated with outstanding goaltending on both ends of the ice.  Early in the period, the Strokes had an opportunity with a penalty shot when it was ruled that Red defenseman Ford hooked Teal forward Tommy Harison, Jr. on a breakaway.  Renfro stymied Harrison on the PS.  At 7:51 of the second, the Strokes did manage to slip a low shot past Renfro on the longside.  Red answered back at 5:22 with a pretty stretch breakout from Ford to Murray, up to Lovaglio, who wristed a shot that trickled in past Toth on the shortside.  The second period ended 4-1 in favor of the Gladiators.
