The American Gladiators crushed T.J. Hooker 8-3 on Sunday night at the MSA. Gladiator's goalie Joe Renfro had another solid night, turning away 34 of 37 shots for an incredible .919 SV%.
The AGs took advantage of an early PP opportunity, when defenseman Sean Waddle slapped a 55-footer that ripped by TJH goalie Joel Voss at the 12-minute mark. Hooker Don Costa evened the score at 10:26 with a bang-bang play that snuck by Renfro. Another PP opportunity for the Gladiators at 7:19 saw Curtis Stepian punch a shot past Voss, unassisted. The Hookers tied the game with 90 seconds left in the period with a goal by Jesse Brand.
The Gladiators turned up the heat in the second frame, registering 15 SOGs on Voss and scoring 4 unanswered goals in the period. AG center Tom Osinkosky scored at 11:57 off a feed from D-man Rick Schmitt. Stepian would notch his second of the game at 10:02 off a long feed from blueliner Dalton Ford. Osinkosky would beat Voss again less than a minute later with assists going to Stepian and winger Kevin Murray. With 14 seconds left in the period, winger Bryan Slaughter lit the lamp off a rebound from defenseman Rob Bergstrom. The second period ended 6-2 in the Gladiators favor with White out-shooting Red 23-22.
The Gladiators continued their scoring ways in the third as captain Rob Lovaglio skated 100 feet up-ice on a PK and scored a SHG on a third-effort stuff attempt. Gladiator Murray beat Voss at 7:30 in the period off a feed from Osinkosky to cap off the scoring for the AGs. TJ Hooker did manage one more goal with 86 ticks left in the game when a broken defensive play left Hooker Costa wide open in front of Renfro for Costa's second goal of the night. The game ended 8-3 with shots 37-33 in favor of the Hookers. AG special teams were solid in the outing as they went 2/3 on the PP and 2/2 on the PK.
The Gladiators take on Battlestar Galactica (Maroon) at 8:30PM Thursday, March 15th at the MSA.
