The American Gladiators defeated Battlestar Galactica 6-1 on Thursday night at the MSA. The Gladiators were backstopped by Joe Renfro who made 14 saves for a stellar .933 SV%. The AG's offensive drive was showcased by Curtis "Crusher" Stepian who registered his first hat trick of the season.
Stepian got the Gladiators on the board at 8:15 of the first period with a wrister from the right wing that beat Galactica goalie Tina Kirkaldy high on the glove-side. Stepian was assisted by speedy center Rob Lovaglio and winger Bryan Slaughter. Less than a minute later, Stepian scored from point-blank in the slot off a pretty feed from Jeff Howe. At 4:33, Tom Osinkosky stretched the Gladiator lead to three with a low shot from the goalline that slid past Kirkaldy. The Red dominated TOP in the first, registering 19 SOGs and holding the Maroons to just 4 shots.
Battlestar captain Joey Blom broke the goose-egg at 11:32 in the second with a wicked 50-ft wrister that sailed high by Renfro. Gladiator captain Lovaglio notched his team-leading 10th goal at 2:48 in the second with the assist going to D-man Rick Schmitt. The second period ended 4-1 in favor of the Red with the Gladiators outshooting their opponent 27-7 after two.
Gladiator Kevin Murray lit the lamp at 12:16 of the third with help from Osinkosky. Stepian capped off his hat-trick at 9:06 with a patient wrister in close that beat Kirkaldy up high. Stepian was assisted by Osinkosky.
